People’s first reactions about robots are often negative when they realise that they could get emotionally attached to a machine (e.g. the friendly Sony Aibo dog). This negative attitude might nevertheless change over time. Indeed, pictures found on the internet about Roomba indicate that people actually like to develop over time personal bonds with their robots. For instance, they buy clothes for their Roomba or decorate them to make them look more like “living creatures”. Looking at the number of video of Roomba and pets on YouTube, people also apparently appreciate the “lively” interactions one can have with a robot. This is definitely an hypothesis we want to verify with our study.
